Perpetrators of sexual assault and/or dating violence are not easy to identify because they seem "normal."

SOME CHARACTERISTICS ARE:

  • Trouble Communicating
  • Stereotypical "Tough" image
  • Stereotypes and labels such as "She's Hot, or Easy", etc.
  • Use Violence or threats to get his or her way

    •
  • Lacks self-confidence or tries proving him or herself to others

    •
  • Ientifies with violent or aggressive crowds

    •
  • History of childhood abuse

    •
  • Violence is used to resolve family conflict

    •
  • Attempts to manipulate, intimidate, pressure, or threaten you

    •
  • Attempts to control you and make you feel guilty

Be aware that the abuser needs to be in control.


SOME DANGER SIGNALS ARE:
  • Repeatedly violates limits set by you
  • Attempts to make you feel guilty and fearful
  • Is often jealous and possessive of you and others
  • What you want and/or need is not important to this person
